Where is your book?



Subject : English for Junior High School Student

Grade : VII

Topic : Preposition (in, on, under, beside, in front of, behind)

Skill : Speaking

Time allocated : 2x45 minutes




A. Standard Competence

Expressing the prepositions in order to talk about location in the form of
English appropriately.



B. Basic Competence

Students are able to talk about preposition in English.


C. Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students will have used preposition to talk about
location in an appropriate form in English.



D. Indicators

1. Students are able to mark 5 appropriate boxes in the poster on the
place nominated by teacher.

2. Students are able to put their book on the places nominated by teacher.

3. Students are able to write where 5 things are hidden by their friends
in the classroom.

4. Students are able to mention where the chalk is put by teacher.



E. Teaching Aids : 1. Box and chalk;

2. Poster;

3. Answer sheets;

4. Stationeries.



F. Techniques : 1. Substitution Drill;

2. Game and Brainstorming;

3. Scaffolding;

4. Peer Correction.



G. Method : Audio Lingual Method;



H. Procedure of Teaching Learning Process



1. Pre activity

a. Greet the students.

b. Conduct routine by asking day, weather, time, etc to the students.

c. Review the previous materials about things in the classroom, like
chair, white board, marker, book, pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, ruler,
pencil case and bag. Brainstorm and scaffold the students. (Familiar to
unfamiliar)

* Ask the student to guess “What are in my pencil case?”

* Show the pencil case and take the stationeries.

* Let the students say, “That is a book” and do the same procedures with
the other stuffs.

* Ask the student “So, where is your pen? Is your pen in your bag? Oh,
is it on your chair?” let the students answer. Do it twice with the
same procedure. Then let them tell their own.

d. Write down what the students say on the board and give feedback.

e. Tell the students the topic that is going to be learnt and the objective
of the material.



2. While activity

a. Drill the students using chalk and box.

* Make a statement and ask the students to repeat, e.g. “the chalk is in
the box”

* Change the position the position and do the same procedure.

* Introduce the form “Is the chalk in the…?” Guide the student to answer
“yes it is in the….” or “no it isn’t in the …..”

* Hold such substitution drill by using other media/teaching aids that
has already prepared.

b. Conduct listening grid game.

* Stick a poster on the whiteboard.

* Divide the class into 7 groups, ask the students from each group to
come to in front and give them the instruction and sample of the game.

* Ask the students to make two rows.

* Teacher makes a statement and asks the students who are in front from
each team to race marking the appropriate box in the poster.

* Scaffold the students by giving questions.

c. Conduct hiding book game.

* Ask the students to hold their book.

* Say “Put your book under the chair!”

* Change the instruction “Put your book on the floor!”

* The student who puts his/her book in the wrong place will be asked to
give instruction.

* Scaffold the students by asking “So, where is your book now? Is it
under the chair?”

d. Give feedback and reinforcement to the student’s performance and the
materials discussed.



3. Post Activity

a. Conduct writing activity.

* Distribute an answer sheet to the students.

* Ask 6 students to come to the front and then give them 6 items.

* Ask them to hide those items.

* Let the other students find and write where the things are on the
answer sheet.

* Conduct peer correction.

b. Ask the students what they have studied and brainstorm again what they
have got using chalk and box.

* Ask a student “Where is the chalk?”

* Let the students answer “It’s on the box.”

* Change the position and do the same procedure.

c. Ask the student’s difficulty and then give them feedback.

d. Close the meeting by saying prayer.

K. Evaluation



Evaluation is done continuously as the course is in progress. It is held in every meeting by making a note of student’s achievement so it can be arranged a feedback for their study problem along the course. Therefore, in this course, students are evaluated by asking them through written and oral test based on the lesson that has been given to them.

  1. It's a good lesson plan for SMP students. I think you can specify the scoring system for example, the participation at class,the fluency,etc.
