I. Standard Competence
To comprehend meaning in functional monologue text / essay in form of report, narrative, and analytical exposition to interact in daily context.
II. Basic Competence
To comprehend meaning in functional monologue text / essay by using various written language accurately, fluently, and acceptably to interact in daily context in form of report, narrative, and analytical exposition.
III. Indicator
- Students are able to write narrative text.
IV. Objective
- Having ability to identify the generic structure of narrative text.
- Having ability to write monologue text / essay in form of narrative.
V. Material
Narrative
Stories consist of several parts. They are the beginning, the problem that occurred, how the problem was solved, and the ending of the story.
• The beginning of the story has the function of introducing the characters of the story, where and when the story occurred. This part of the story is called orientation.
• How the problem starts until its crisis point (climax) of the problem, in which the character(s) have to face is called the complication.
• How the problem is solved or ended is called the resolution.
• The ending of the story which may consist of closing remark to the story, moral lesson, advice or teaching from the writer is called re-orientation. However, this part of the story is optional. You may or may not find it in a story.
The social purpose of this type of text is entertaining because they deal with the unusual
and unexpected development of events. It also instruct because they teach readers and listeners that problems patterns of behavior that are generally highly valued.
The common grammatical features of narrative texts include:
• use of particular nouns to refer to or describe the particular people, animals and things that the story is about;
• use of adjectives to build noun groups to describe the people, animals or things in the story;
• use of time connectives and conjunctions to sequence events through time;
• use of adverbs and adverbial phrases to locate the particular incidents or events;
• use of past tense action verbs to indicate the actions in a narrative;
• use of saying and thinking verbs to indicate what characters are feeling, thinking or saying.

Activities Time
Pre-activities 15’:
- The teacher greets the students.
- The teacher checks the students` attendance list.
- The teacher asks the students about what materials they have got in previous meeting, and gives questions to remind them orally.
- The teacher raises the brainstorming process.
- The teacher informs the students that they are going to learn about narrative text.
While activities 105’ :
- The teacher introduces and gives the task sheet to students.
- The teacher asks students to do activity 1- Vocabulary. Then discuss the correct answer.
- The teacher explains the generic structure of the text.
- The teacher asks students to write the main idea of the narrative text given (activity 2)
- The teacher asks students to construct another story in group (activity 3).
- The teacher asks the students to submit the task, and choose one or two students to read their writings in front of the class.
Post Activities 15’:
- The teacher gives the students chance to ask about narrative text.
- The teacher arises the students reflection by asking them what they have got and what they have learn.
- The teacher gives the students home work.
- The teacher closes the class while greeting the students.

WRITING TEST – NARRATIVE
Write a narration of the following story. The outline of the story may help you develop the narration.
Cinderella
• Cinderella's mother passed away.
• She lived with a stepmother and three stepsisters.
• They treated her badly.
• Cinderella went to the prince's ball.
• The prince looked for the owner of the glass shoes.
• The prince found the owner, Cinderella.
Snow White
• Snow White's stepmother ordered someone to kill her.
• She was still alive and lived together with seven dwarfs.
• Her stepmother disguised herself as a beggar and met her.
• She fainted after eating an apple given by her stepmother.
• She is revived after being helped by a prince.
